How to Choose the Perfect Facial Mask Treatment

Looking for a quick and easy way to unwind while pampering your skin? Practicing self-love doesn't have to be expensive and timely. Skip the drive and wait in the salon and incorporate your own at-home skincare facial routine.

Benefits of facial masks

Traditionally facials were thought to be part of a luxurious and costly skincare regimen but facials provide more benefits than some self-pampering and self-love. Skincare facial mask treatments can help to:

  • exfoliate dead skin cells

  • increase hydration and elasticity

  • minimize the size of your pores

  • decrease oil production and acne

  • reduce the appearance of wrinkles

  • reduce hyperpigmentation (uneven skin tone and blotchiness, typically caused by acne scars, sun spots, or aging spots)

Facials treatments help generate new skin cells and increase blood circulation, important for collagen production. Collagen is a type of protein that provides skin elasticity and strength. (Looking to increase your collagen production? Check out my FAVORITE COLLAGEN!

Deciding which homemade facial mask treatment is best for your skin

Because you are uniquely made and no two people are alike, what works great for your best friend's skin and style (and financial budget) may not work for you! The first step to finding the perfect facial is to decide your unique needs, personal style and skin type.

Skin Types

There are 5 different skin types. Facials are designed with ingredients to fit different skin types. (This is why what works for your B.F.F. may not work for you).

  • Oily Skin

  • Combination Skin

  • Normal Skin

  • Dry Skin

  • Sensitive Skin

Not sure what skin type you have? Check out more on skin types here to help you identify the correct skin type in order to chose a facial mask treatment appropriate for your skin.

Skin Needs

Facials are formulated not only to meet your skin type but specific skin needs you may have. When choosing a homemade facial, you want to chose (or design) a facial mask treatment that has ingredients that address your skin needs. Some examples of skin needs include:

  • Exfoliate Skin & Unclog Pores

  • Decrease pore size

  • Minimize the Appearance of Fine Lines & Wrinkles

  • Hydrate & Refresh

  • Smooth Skin Texture

  • Reduce Hyperpigmentation (uneven skin tone or blotchiness)

Your skin needs may vary based on many factors including your age, skin type, lifestyle, and environment. When selecting the perfect mask you may chose to address multiple needs by using a multi-purpose mask or decide to customize your skincare routine by incorporating multiple facials into your skincare routine to address multiple needs.

Facial Mask Style

Finding the perfect facial depends not only on your skin type or skin needs but also on your personal style! When choosing your perfect facial style, consider

  • Financial Budget (Can you afford a trip to the salon every month or is an at-home facial treatment more fitting with your financial budget?)

  • Time Limitations (Can you afford to spend an hour in traffic to drive to a salon plus an hour at the salon or do you need a facial in under 30 minutes or less?)

  • Application & Removal Method (Do you hate to get your get your hands messy? Do you prefer something that requires you to sit during your facial treatment or prefer a facial mask that allows you to cook dinner and tend to a crying baby, if needed?)

When choosing the perfect facial style, there is no right or wrong answer, you're the boss and there may be more than one facial mask treatment you love, and that's okay! You're Worth It

For too long I lived thinking I wasn't worth the time or money, facials is just one way I practice ME being KIND TO ME! I had to learn self-love and while facials are FUN the truth is that you only get ONE FACE for as long as you live and while it may be possible to reverse skin damage caused from neglecting your skin, it will likely take a lot of effort (and time) to reverse the damage.

Know that, "YOU'RE WORTH IT!"
